But it’s not enough for YOU to know what sets you apart. Others must know too. You have to get your message out. Today, you have more avenues than ever, but that doesn’t mean it’s any easier.

Between television, the internet, and social media, consumers are inundated by an endless stream of messages. It’s a lot harder to get noticed because, let’s face it, we’ve gotten pretty good at tuning things out. It takes more than a snazzy website to increase market share. To succeed, you have to CONNECT with your clients or customers. You need to CONVEY your story – that bit of special something that sets you apart from the next guy.

What sets me apart

I’m not just another designer. I share some similarities with designers you may have worked with in the past, but just like you, there are distinctions that set me apart. For a long time, I didn’t think the distinction had much to do with my graphic design career. Actually, I thought it worked in opposition to it, until I realized it was one of my greatest assets as a designer.

I am a writer. I love to create stories. Though I am employed as a web/graphic designer, my brain is wired to tell stories. I’m fascinated by them. This passion always seemed to be in competition with my “day job.” I’d be working on a website, wishing I was writing.  Then, one day I was working on a new logo. After a brainstorming session, I came up with a design that captured the story I’d been trying to tell, not with words, but with a graphic representation that conveyed as much meaning as a perfect metaphor.
